Accessibility
Accessibility statement
For the Auroute website, the network map and the Auroute platform.
This statement applies to auroute.uk, including the network map at auroute.uk/map, and to the Auroute platform at app.auroute.uk, which councils, police forces and hauliers sign in to. It is run by Auroute Ltd. We want as many people as possible to be able to use it. For example, you should be able to:
- change colours, contrast levels and fonts using your browser or device settings
- zoom in up to 400% on the website's pages without the text spilling off the screen
- move around the website's pages using just a keyboard, with a link to skip straight to the content
- stop anything that moves on its own with the Pause animation button at the foot of every page (the 3D scenes then hold still as you scroll), or ask your device for reduced motion, which leaves every page fully drawn and still, with no 3D scenes
We have also tried to make the text as simple as possible to understand.
The 3D scenes behind the top of each page are decoration. Everything they show is also written in the page, and they are hidden from screen readers.
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
How accessible this website is
We know some parts are not fully accessible:
- the maps show most of their information visually, and not all of it is available as text yet
- the parts of the platform you see after signing in have not been fully tested yet, so they may have problems we do not know about
Feedback and contact information
If you need information on this website in a different format, such as accessible PDF, large print, easy read, audio recording or braille, or what a map shows as a list, email admin@auroute.uk. We will consider your request and get back to you within 5 working days.
If you use Auroute through your council or police force, you can also ask them.
Reporting accessibility problems with this website
We are always looking to improve the accessibility of this website and platform. If you find any problems not listed on this page or think we are not meeting accessibility requirements, email admin@auroute.uk.
Enforcement procedure
Auroute Ltd is a private company, so the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the 'accessibility regulations') do not apply to us directly. They do apply to the councils and police forces that use Auroute, so we have written this statement in the form those regulations set out.
The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the accessibility regulations. If you are not happy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS). In Northern Ireland, contact the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland.
Technical information about this website's accessibility
Auroute Ltd is committed to making its website and platform accessible, in line with the Equality Act 2010 and the standard the accessibility regulations set.
Compliance status
This website and platform are partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, for the reasons listed below.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
We know of no failures of WCAG 2.2 AA on the public website or the network map. The one we listed before, small labels and counts in the network map's layer panel without enough contrast (success criterion 1.4.3, Contrast (Minimum)), was fixed on 12 October 2026, when the panel was rebuilt, with the problems that testing it again found.
Maps
The network map and the route maps in the platform show closures, road works, collisions, structures and abnormal load routes visually, and not all of it is available as text yet. Online maps are exempt from the accessibility regulations unless they are for navigation, but we still want the information to be usable by everyone: email us and we will send what the map shows for a place or a route in another form.
Not yet tested
We have not yet fully tested the parts of the platform you see after signing in (the dashboard, the abnormal load review page, the haulier portal and the administration page) or the emails the platform sends. We have not yet tested with assistive technology such as screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver), screen magnifiers (ZoomText) or speech recognition (Dragon). We plan to do this by 31 March 2027 and will update this statement with what we find.
Disproportionate burden
We are not claiming that fixing any of the problems above would be a disproportionate burden.
What we are doing to improve accessibility
- Testing the signed-in parts of the platform, and testing with assistive technology, by 31 March 2027.
- Checking new pages and features against WCAG 2.2 AA as we build them.
Preparation of this accessibility statement
This statement was prepared on 10 October 2026. It was last reviewed on 12 October 2026.
This website and platform were last tested on 11 October 2026 against the WCAG 2.2 AA standard. The test was carried out by Auroute Ltd using the axe-core automated checker (version 4.10), plus checks of keyboard focus and of layout at 320 pixels wide. We tested every page of the public website, the network map, the sign-in page, and the structure guide and structure check pages, each at desktop and phone sizes. The network map's layer panel was rebuilt on 12 October 2026 and tested again the same day, signed in and signed out, in light and dark, at desktop and phone sizes: the same checker with all its WCAG 2.2 A and AA rules, on the panel and on every layer's options page, over light, dark and satellite maps, plus checks of keyboard use, of layout at 320 pixels wide, of wider text spacing and of a high contrast (forced colours) mode. Automated checks find only some accessibility problems, which is why we are adding the testing described above.
